Farook College was established as a first grade college in 1948. In addition to being the largest residential post-graduate institution affiliated to the University of Calicut, it enjoys the distinction of being the most advanced co-educational Muslim minority institution in South India, offering instruction at undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as guidance in research in specialized fields. The stages of its growth and expansion ran parallel to the gradual emergence of the Muslim community of Malabar from the morass of orthodoxy and superstition to the heights of enlightenment and social prestige. FACTS
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) in the college has three wings. NCC (Army), NCC (Navy) and NCC (Girls) with strengths of 106, 50 and 54 (29 Army, 25 Navy) cadets respectively. The college is a recognized Study Centre for B.Com, M.Com Courses and Bachelors Preparatory Programme and courses under the Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. The College is recognized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India as an accredited institution for organizing classes for Professional Education (Course - I) and Professional Education (Course - II).

The college provides opportunities to play Football, Hockey, Cricket, Basketball, Kho-kho, Tennis, Handball, Softball, Table Tennis, Volley Ball and Badminton. The college boasts of a fully air-conditioned Audio-Visual Theatre, with provisions for LCD Projectors and other hi-tech presentations, which can accommodate 100 persons. The health center provides medical consultation free-of-cost to all students of the campus and supplies medicines at a moderate rate.
